Marie Claire Uwamahoro presenting two posters at the Newcomer Research Network Mobilizing Knowledge on Newcomers Symposium in 2023

C4 at the Newcomer Research Network, 2023

At the 2023 Mobilizing Knowledge on Newcomers Symposium, Dr. Marie Claire Uwamahoro presented two ongoing projects on behalf of the C4 research team: our scoping review on how Black populations are defined in Canadian health research and the protocol for our study exploring the healthcare experiences of Black Francophone adults with multimorbidity in Alberta. At the time, the scoping review was in the screening phase.

Marie Claire also presented “Experiences of Black Francophone Patients with Multimorbidity about Navigating the Healthcare System in Alberta. This study explores the healthcare experiences of Black francophone adults living with multiple chronic health conditions in Alberta using patient journey mapping and an intersectional, community-engaged approach. Researchers are working closely with a Community Advisory Committee to ensure the study design, interview process, and knowledge translation activities reflect the language, priorities, and lived experiences of the community. Individual participant interviews are beginning, with findings ultimately contributing to a validated collective patient journey map. At the time of presentation, the Black Francophone study had completed initial engagement with its Community Advisory Committee and was preparing to begin participant interviews.
